M5000 battery-powered electromagnetic flowmeter

Autonomous, battery-powered, highly accurate flow measurement even at low flow rates

stand-alone electromagnetic flow meter m5000

Operation of the M5000 electromagnetic flowmeter is based on Faraday's law, which states that the voltage induced in a conductor moving through an electromagnetic field is proportional to its speed.

Excellent repeatability combined with long battery life make this innovative water meter an indispensable flow measurement device for the water market. The magnetic field is used to measure flow by generating a voltage proportional to fluid velocity.

Typical applications include leak detection in water networks, water consumption measurement and irrigation plant management. The flowmeter measures conductive fluids, enabling high accuracy under a wide range of conditions.

This flow meter is recommended for all installations without an external power supply, where it is necessary to know precisely the flow of a liquid and the consumption of water.

The M5000 electromagnetic flowmeter can also be used with an external power supply. It can be powered via the factory's AC or DC network and, in the event of a problem, automatically switch over to the internal battery. Important data in the converter's memory are then continuously saved.

The M5000 electromagnetic flowmeter with converter has been designed for harsh environmental measurement conditions. It has no moving parts and can be used to measure water containing particles such as sand or gravel.

The M5000 electromagnetic flowmeter features IP67 protection (IP68 optional), making it a reliable meter even when submerged.

As standard, the converter is equipped with an internal data logging function, which can then be read out via infrared or RS232C links using the ModBus® RTU communication protocol. Data can also be transferred via radio or GSM/GPRS to the central server for processing and display.

A portable console enables the M5000 flowmeter to be checked during operation without interrupting the flow.

M5000 electromagnetic battery flowmeter technical specifications

Exceptional autonomy

Powered by internal 3.6V lithium batteries, this flowmeter offers an impressive 6-year operating life, extendable to 12 years as an option. For maximum continuity, a management board allows toggling between the internal batteries and an optional external (AC) source, ensuring uninterrupted operation even under the most demanding conditions.

Variable diameters and user-friendly display

Available in a range of sizes and diameters from DN 15 to DN 600, with PTFE or hard rubber linings, this flowmeter is suitable for a variety of applications. The two-line LCD display offers a clear, intuitive user interface for easy programming via three front-panel keys.

Exceptional Accuracy and Unmatched Repeatability

With a measuring range from 0.03 to 12 m/s, this flowmeter guarantees outstanding accuracy. At speeds above 0.5 m/s, accuracy is better than ±0.4% of the measured flow value, while at lower speeds it reaches ±2.5 mm/s. Repeatability of 0.1% ensures reliable consistency under all conditions.

Advanced features and versatile connectivity

The flowmeter offers a full range of logic outputs, including four open-collector outputs, passive 30 VDC/20 mA, max. 100 Hz. Logic output functions include min/max alarms, flow direction detection and error signalling. Serial connectivity via RS232 and ModBus® RTU, as well as an infrared link (IRDA), offers flexibility in integrating the flowmeter into larger systems.

Rugged and ready for extreme conditions

Housed in a cast aluminum enclosure offering IP67 protection (with IP68 option), this flowmeter is designed to withstand the harshest industrial environments. Cable inputs are provided by two M20 connectors for power supply and outputs, while sensor cable inputs use two M20 connectors for signals to the sensors.

Adaptability and extended operating temperature

A remote-mount version offers maximum flexibility, with a range of up to 30 meters. The operating temperature range from -20°C to 60°C enables use in a variety of industrial contexts.
