Biogas metering

Operators of non-hazardous waste storage facilities and agricultural methanisation units can make a full contribution to the objectives of the green energy transition by recovering energy from their biogas. Turn your biogas into energy, benefit from tax advantages, access bonus and subsidies and invoice the energy produced!

Biogas energy recovery

Custody transfer and energy recovery from biogas

The overall potential for methanisation by 2030 has been evaluated at 56 GWh of primary energy in biogas production. Non-hazardous waste storage facilities, energy recovery units and agricultural methanisation units contribute fully to the objectives of the green energy transition.

Biogas is produced by anaerobic digestion of recycled fermentable waste and raw materials from different types of industries.

Biogas is used for energy recovery when it is burned in a boiler to produce heat, in an engine to produce electricity, in a cogeneration unit to produce heat and electricity, injected into the natural gas network (after cleaning), or used as a vehicle fuel (after cleaning).

Accurately measure the volume of biogas produced and benefit from advantageous tax levers

Accurately measure the volume of biogas produced - diagram

Companies that have a polluting activity or use polluting products must pay a global tax on polluting activities (Taxe Globale sur les Activités Polluantes, TGAP¹). In the case of storage of non-hazardous products in mainland France, it amounts to €54 per tonne of waste stored.

When the operator of a Non-Hazardous Waste Landfill can prove that the biogas generated by the waste is recovered to more than 75%, he obtains a reduction in the amount of this tax.
The tax is now only €37 per tonne.

For local authorities, the TGAP Biogas tax represents up to €3,700,000 for an average unit capable of treating 100,000 tonnes/year. This means a saving of €1,700,000 compared to the amount of the tax without the reduction.

Biogas measuring instruments shall comply with MID-002

A new decree determines the choice of measuring instruments. Since 28 December 2017², biogas is considered a combustible gas. As a result, the instruments used for the measurement of transactional biogas must comply with the European Directive 2014/32/EU, commonly known as MID-002. The use of measuring instruments that meet the requirements of the State is an essential criterion for obtaining the reduction in TGAP.

Ensuring the profitability of a non-hazardous waste storage facility can be a challenge. However, several tax incentives are available. However, it is necessary to be able to take advantage of them and prove that the operation meets the eligibility criteria.

Fuji Electric solution for certified measurement and metering of your biogas

The solution consists of equipping the operator's site with flow metering lines placed at multiple strategic points of his operation. This allows precise measurement and counting of the biogas recovered.
This allows the operator to calculate the energy efficiency of his installation.

Fuji Electric flow meters ensure reliable and accurate biogas measurement

Fuji Electric flow meters ensure reliable and accurate biogas measurement

Differential pressure and pitot tube flowmeters allow continuous measurement of gas flow and monitoring of gas quality. The biogas flowmeter measures mass flow. It has a pressure and temperature correction to correct for its variable density and to obtain a standard biogas flow rate.
The design has been developed specifically for biogas applications. The materials used are resistant to the chemical aggression of biogas. The transmitters are ATEX certified for use in hazardous areas to ensure maximum safety in the installation.
They are available in a wide range of pipe diameters and allow the measurement of biogas flow at low pressure. They are used for flow measurement of collected, recovered or flared gas.

The COF CH4multi-channel computer allows the acquisition and visualisation of the different transmitters for 1 to 6 counting channels: instantaneous flow and total volume, absolute pressure and temperature..
A biogas analyser, available as an option, allows you to monitor CH4 methane, CO2 carbon dioxide, O2 and H2S content with a single instrument.
