The use of transit time technology contributes to the exceptional accuracy of this ultrasonic flow meter, enabling the measurement of flow rates in liquids containing suspended particles or gas bubbles.

Fuji Electric ultrasonic flowmeters use the transit time difference method (different from the Doppler principle) to determine flow rates.

The two ultrasonic sensors are installed on the outside of the pipe.
Ultrasonic waves propagate diagonally across the cross-section from the upstream transducer to the downstream transducer, and then from the downstream transducer to the upstream transducer.
Unlike Doppler ultrasonic flowmeters, which measure the frequency of ultrasonic waves reflected by moving particles, transit time ultrasonic flowmeters operate differently. These flowmeters use the variation in wave propagation time. An ultrasonic wave is sent upstream and downstream of the fluid flow. In one case, the wave is "carried" by the fluid, in the other, it is "braked". It therefore takes a different time to travel from one ultrasonic transducer to the other.
This difference in transit time is proportional to the flow velocity. This method enables fluid flow to be determined with a high degree of accuracy.
