Fields of application
Three-phase resistive heating for electric furnaces, ovens, and industrial dryers, and control of resistance heating elements on production lines.
Benefits
Fuji Electric’s APR-D three-phase thyristor power controller regulates resistive loads in industrial heating equipment. It adjusts the output voltage to the setpoint of the control system using electronic control across all three phases. Several control modes allow its operation to be tailored to the thermal process. Start-up, ramp-up, and ramp-down times can be adjusted separately to accommodate heating transitions. Integrated adjustment and display functions facilitate system commissioning. For connected equipment, an optional communication card allows users to modify parameters and view operating information via an RS-485 Modbus RTU network.

A three-phase power controller adjusts the power supply to a heating system based on the setpoint from the control system. The three-phase power controller ;APR-D is designed for resistive loads. To learn more about the role of this technology in thermal processes, see our application on the electrification of industrial furnaces using power controllers.
The selection is based on the line voltage, the current through the resistors, their connection, and the temperature inside the cabinet. For the three-phase power controller APR-D, you must also verify the control circuit power supply and the options required for the installation.
The two versions are designed for different electrical architectures. The three-phase power controller APR-D controls resistive loads on a three-phase power supply. The single-phase version also supports certain inductive applications and the primary-side control of transformers or rectifiers. The choice depends on the power grid and the load to be controlled.
Yes, a three-phase power controller APR-D configuration supports 400-volt networks. However, it is important to distinguish between the main circuit power supply and the control circuit power supply, and to select the transformer that corresponds to the required configuration.
The three-phase APR-D is used with resistive loads. To order a three-phase transformer, you must select a solution explicitly designed for inductive loads and have the application conditions verified.
Ramps allow the electrical output to change gradually during startup or when the setpoint is changed. On the three-phase power controller APR-D, the three ramp times are adjustable separately from 0 to 100 seconds. They affect the electrical control; the temperature change also depends on the process.
The rated currents for the three-phase power controller APR-D are specified for an ambient temperature of 40 °C. At higher temperatures, the allowable current decreases. The manufacturer’s derating curve must be used to determine whether the selected size is sufficient or whether a larger size is required.
Yes, with the optional ZAM communication card. It provides access to settings and operating information via an RS-485 Modbus RTU network. This option must be specified when defining the product part number. Our article on the communication features of SCR power controllers provides a more detailed overview of how they can be integrated into industrial control systems.
