Fields of application
Single-phase electric heating for furnaces and industrial machinery; primary-side control of transformers and rectifiers; lighting dimming compatible with phase-angle control.
Benefits
Fuji Electric’s APR-D single-phase thyristor power controller adjusts the power supplied to a load based on a manual or automatic setpoint. When paired with a temperature controller, it controls the power delivered to heating elements. Its versatility also allows it to drive inductive loads and control the primary windings of transformers or rectifiers, depending on operating conditions. Its compact design facilitates the installation of multiple units side by side and reduces the space required in the control cabinet. The integrated digital controls and display functions simplify configuration and operational monitoring. Depending on the version selected, current limiting and regulation capabilities complement the load control functions.

A single-phase controller modulates the effective voltage applied to a load using power electronic components. This allows the energy supplied to an electric heater or other compatible equipment to be adjusted.
The temperature controller compares the measured temperature to the setpoint and determines the heating requirement. The power controller regulates the power supply to the heating elements based on the received signal. The two devices therefore perform complementary functions in the control loop.
The selection depends on the load current, the temperature inside the cabinet, and any inrush currents. The single-phase power controller APR-D is available in several sizes. Proper sizing must take into account actual operating conditions, particularly for transformers and heating elements with high inrush currents.
Yes. The single-phase power controller APR-D can handle resistive and inductive loads, as well as primary-side control of transformers and rectifiers. The control mode and sizing must comply with the conditions specified in the product documentation.
Phase-angle control adjusts the on-time during each half-cycle. Pulse-width modulation alternates between full periods of power supply and power cutoff. This second principle is particularly suitable for heaters with sufficient thermal inertia.
No. This mode is intended only for resistive alloy loads. Compatibility with an inductive load or a transformer therefore does not apply to all control modes.
The single-phase power controller APR-D accepts, among other things, a 4–20 mA setpoint or a compatible voltage setpoint. You must verify the signal available on the control equipment and configure the corresponding input. Modbus RTU communication is also available with the ZAM option.
The current limit prevents the current from exceeding a set threshold. The current control adjusts the output to maintain the current at the requested value. On the single-phase power controller APR-D, these functions depend on the version: CLR current limit on Type A, ACR current control and CLR current limit on Type B.
